Our December book is The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway. Coincidentally, author Steven Galloway is in the midst of a controversy. It’s been announced that Galloway, who is the head of the creative writing program at the University of British Columbia, has been suspended from his position. The University is receiving quite a bit of flack from the faculty association for announcing the suspension before allowing Galloway due process.
The Cellist of Sarajevo was a critically acclaimed novel and longlisted for the Giller literary prize. I’m sure we will enjoy the novel despite the controversy since, as of this writing, UBC has not said why Galloway has been suspended.
